The wheelchair basketball club (RSV) Lahn-Dill looks back on many
successful years in Germany’s first division basketball league. In
the last ten years – particularly through their championship titles
in 1998, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 as well as cup wins in 2002, 2004,
2005, 2006 and 2007 – RSV Lahn-Dill Wetzlar has established a reputation
as the secret capital of wheelchair basketball in Germany. In Europe,
too, RSV Lahn-Dill is among the absolute top clubs. The wheelchair basketball
team from Wetzlar won the Champions Cup in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The professional presentation of the sport in a suitable atmosphere,
Germany’s first fan club for “rollis” and an “everyday” sport in front
of a significant number of spectators – all factors that have led to
the rollis from Wetzlar achieving a respectable position in a region with
strong competition from other first division sports.
The sport of wheelchair basketball hardly differs from the so-called “normal” sport that everybody knows. The rules, with a small number of exceptions, are identical, the atmosphere is exciting and the tempo is fast. “Basketball was invented for rollis”, is a commonly heard slogan that attracted over 300,000 visitors and created a lasting impression at the paralympic wheelchair basketball competition in Sydney.
With a total of seven national team players on its roster, including the two international stars Michael Paye and Joey Johnson, the RSV Lahn-Dill is not only a top team in Germany but also one of the top teams in Europe.
Since August 1995 STADA has been supporting RSV Lahn-Dill and is, among other things, also the jersey sponsor.
